Not sure if it was the first or the second time I programmed a score keeper but  wac a mole  is  a good example of basic incremental scoring. Click  the mouse  the right time in  the right place and the score counter goes up.

Objects needed were
Game background – A static rendered image
Game board mask – image with holes for mole to pop out of.
Counter display – a text box in this  case
Mole up and down movie
9 Hammer up  and down movies
Blood splat movie

Functions needed were
Generate a random mole position
Play mole pop movie
Check mouse position when clicked
Add one to counter holder

Variables were
Mole hole holder – a global variable to display random popping moles
Counter holder  - a global variable for the counter info
Hammer holder – a global variable to trigger the  correct hammer movie
Splat holder - a global variable to set if and which splat is shown

Multimedia

To me multimedia is using 2 or more media of differing types either for display or production.

In the case of the yellow journalism movie I wanted output that would run on any player that is available. This meant to display and function in the same manner across  all platforms.

Choosing to use the Photoshop-flash combination as the api and media production software was simple as it allowed final outputs in QuickTime and shockwave formats.

Its multimedia in that the end user can use either of the 2 media to view the production.

Quicktime Movie Example – Quicktime or  mov player required

Flash Movie Example – Flash Player required

My First Movies Part 2

Tue Mar 21, 2006, 7:49 AM

OLD GEOCITIES HEADER

_________ End Header____________

Once I was able to buy a 8mm editing rig and use it , dad had little choice but to let me use his super8mm cam. Around that time there was a viewer called seeandshow or something,. It had plastic cartridges that you put in then you hand cranked the viewer to watch little movies. In one of my ah ha moments I broke open one of these carts to examine the film used, it was super8. I then took all  my carts and opened them putting them all to gather on one reel. I then studied them to death.

Effects – anything outside of an actor or character image is known as an effect. Movie 2 the -  Dead Baby – movie was an experiment in movie effects.

First we needed a baby and real ones would not have survived the shooting so a stand in was stolen – um found in my sisters room a doll of aproximate baby size. The doll was like a 3 year old so besides scraping her around the dirt and finding a baby dress we could rip, I took out my theatre makeup to bruise and bloody her face and hands removing an eyeball as well.

Basic idea baby is dead comes back to l life and hero saves the day not. Effect shots were  –

the flying baby where with several camera angles some puppet work an many doll tosses it appears as if the baby is flying over the swimming pool.

The magic moving man as the villain and the baby appear, disappear  and glide over the grass like the old levis commercials – stop motion

The roof jump – made popular on the 6 million dollar  man the villain jump onto the roof in a single leap with the baby  followed by the hero – film reversal.

In a prior post I said how I found DA to host a single swf movie.file for my Multimedia Journal. This led me to explore other features of the system.

Gallery Function -
I like unlimited number of deviation uploads. And the standard of 24 thumbs for the gallery for non members gives a good idea of an artists abilities and weather you like there style or not.
Categories are straightforward and uploading has been a breeze even allowing my old os 9 PowerBook to add deviations (not recommended – must know browser versions well)

Deviant Watch
50 will be the end of adding to my deviation watch. I do not think it fair to me or to the artists. If a lot of the artists upload deviations at the same time I cant have time to see them all so I know I can do 50 in a day if need be.

Favorites
Favorites are images that give me a good feel or inspire me in some way. The plans are to have a new favorite every week day and when over 100 I will have the favorites set to random on the weekends so every one has an equal chance of views.

Journal
Nice features - easy to use and has rss functionality

Art is not a concrete concept – it is a abstract concept to start with, then it is learned via purely cultural methods, this makes the idea of ART totally subjective.
When someone critiques an artist or a –work of art- they need to know the cultural point of view before putting down words.
People today take for granted even the printing press – books and pictures and magazines – as if everyone has always had the ability to read and write through some magic and not learned behavior.
2nd nature is not nature or natural.
The real art to me is in thumbnails, underpainting, sketching, a storyboard or a story outline. The shorthand thats needed to bring an idea to life. So unless you know the context – in time/space - and the shorthand as 2nd nature you should not critique any art.

3rd Generation Imagery

1st generation imagery is only known to the individual that perceived it.
2nd generation images are the pictures and words used to describe the 1st generation images to others in a direct method ?
3rd generation Imagery is the attempted description of a 2nd generation image.
--------------------------------------------
Most all we do and say is based on tense.
Now really never ?happens- for anyone. Even describing an action as it happens? is 2d generation in that it is a single perspective described post tense ( remember an action has to have happened before one can explain it so, nothing can be as it happens).
A video or photograph is by nature 2nd generation at best and most are 3rd gen. All illustrations and cartoons are 3rd gen as are most TV shows and movies.
I am very into 3rd generation imagery.

So someone else noticed the cheap way HuffingtonPost is hyping media in its contest or they are making fun of the complainers like me.

HA HA HA

Like i said if there was a check , disclaimer for self advertised pieces or even listing the entrys in REVERSE order of popularity it would be OK. But they continue on the route of Self Indulgence.

Damn You Red Baron

Contest Sucking

More Rants
Huh some fair contest.
Looks like you can fake the counter via changing ip , Great. If there is a minimum amount of time say 5-10 seconds before a view is registered then maybe I would believe the counts. ( One project added 10000 hits In less then 8 hours – after the top counted had only less then a thousand in 2 days ) -SPAM anyone???
The only ad I have found on the internet to this is on the huffpo home page.
This link goes to the leader page – which is basically a means for the top 15 projects to stay on top.
Where and how is the equal exposure?

Opps Broke The Rules

I believe that in me meeting all the goals of the user agreement , I should have rights one of which is to not be cheated.
RULE 13
13) Be Good. - The Huffington Post technical staff reserves the right to immediately remove and disqualify any entry that does not meet the contest rules or interferes with the integrity or spirit of the contest.
Most of the stuff up there is reworked or copyright infringed. NONE have been removed.
One guy who works for the contest is in the top 5, HUH!!! No Notice from HuffPoor No Definitions of whats Vote able or not??

I Cheated
posted on February 9, 2006 3:45 PM
Putting my piece up on archive.org is against the rules so they have to disqualify me, as such I will retain all rights to the movie myself. So there
Tainted Media
How thoughtless are they to not have security in place or at least a media/copyrights expert checking entries.
One last rant about it
If I can make it look like all the pc's in my office have one ip why cant someone do the opposite , how do they test for that?
How do they check against someone sending to thousands of email address at once? If someone has a 10000 personal email adress book I don't know of them.
The current leader as of today meets none of the requirments they were taking about, an ostritch is not political , nor is it parody nor is it original.

------------------------------------------

The above story was the reason to move to deaviantart, too bad for them lucky for me.
SHORTHAND
My Feb. eye drawing is a good example of the concepts of shorthand and forced metaphor. This universal language is a powerful tool the artist has

Sometimes we forget the power these forced images. seem to have on a uneducated public. Most folks do not get the concept of second  generation imagery at all, while  we in many cases whine about copyrights and take our imaginations for granted.

STUDIES AND SKETCHING
I am so pleased that the tutorials I  have viewed emphasize the need to choose the right model or base object to start. Also pushing practice methods is a nice touch to some.
The red hook paintings were all based on sea mammal reference book photos, the whale watch pieces were based on actual sketches of the whales done while on the boat and right afterwards.
If you want to sync audio and video the hardest and most time consuming is to use flash or other content development systems.

The best way is to out put all animations or titles to QuickTime, Mp4 or WMV video from the animation program and the audio from the sound editor.

Import the sound files and the movie or movie files - into your favorite movie editor and use this to sync the sound the way you want it. When you are somewhat happy with the results output to a digital video format – MOV Macintosh Linux windows or WMV windows.
It just bugs me, looking at that couch fabric. Maybe its fake fiber or
poorly woven wool I¹m not sure but it LOOKS wrong.

When Katie KureRick wears what I call The Couch Coat it makes me want to put
a block on NBC so I don¹t even channel skim through the today show.

Bad enough when she has it on for a chair interview or a one third shot,
they all have random fibers sticking out like that yucky scratchy couch your
Grandma had and make me itch just looking at it.
THAT ALONE would make one turn off the station.

Ahhhh , the real trouble for me happens when she wears a couch coat and the
director lets her sit on the couch. HELLOO Katie were did you go, she
becomes a pillow or sometimes blends right into the couch. Play hide and
seek with a disembodied voice or try and get some real information.:couch:

Anyone there got design sense or balls enough to tell her how BAD it makes
her look NAAAaaaa.:teevee:

New Eye Image
I have studied all forms of creative expressive methodologies. One of the things that changed my ideas about art marketing was the difference between 2 visitor measurement systems.

It was the 2nd or 3rd year of the Hoboken Artists Studio Tour and I had set up an accountants ledger book for people to sign as they leave. With nearly every visitor signing the book the total was 80 people/groups.

When I put up a personal website link on wwar.org over 2 days there were over 400 unique hits of which I could find out a whole bunch of stuff about at my leisure.

My art links page has been up  at dauz.com from 1997
My own personal Art gallery from 1998-1999

How cool it has been the past few weeks hanging around folks who are artists. I had forgotten a lot of the pains I went through to appear to be computer graphics guy. Also to see the life of passing technique is thriving even with the cuts in art education is a wonderful thing.
My first movie an animated short on super 8. I had just gotten thee coolest snap-together model of a trex – it was about 26 inches tall with full joint articulation including the tail. The summer after I went over to  Billys Backyard with the model and  a few props while he got his fathers super 8 camera, then using dead branches and a sand box we made a little Prehistoric scene.

Needless to say we spent the whole of that after noon moving stuff around and clicking off 3 fames at a time.

2weeks later we got the film back and I used my super8 editor to piece it all together. The result was a fun little movie of a trex eating a cave man while  his triceratops ran away. Sure there were trees that appeared and disappeared and the sun light animated shadows sometimes in places we did not want them BUT  the overall effect was really neat. I learned a lot from that first movie.
